WHAT IS A PAP SMEAR:
A Pap Smear is an important test used to screen for cervical cancer. For women over 30, it’s usually combined with a test for human papillomavirus (HPV).
WHO NEEDS IT AND HOW OFTEN:
If you are between ages 21 and 29, we recommend a Pap test every 3 years. Women aged 30 to 64 should get a Pap test and human papillomavirus (HPV) test together every 5 years or a Pap test every 3 years. If you are 65 or older, it’s up to you and your doctor whether or not you need to continue having Pap tests. Some women may require more frequent pap tests.
