What is a rapid (antigen) test?

Rapid screening tests detect the presence of proteins (or antigens) on the surface of the SARS-CoV-2 virus (the virus which causes COVID-19) from your nasal secretions.

A swab sample collected from your lower nasal passages will be used to perform the test. The result will be available 15 minutes after testing.

A doctor’s prescription is not necessary for this test.

What is a PCR (lab-based) test?

The polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test is conducted in a lab, and detects the presence of genetic material from the SARS-COV-2 virus (the virus that causes COVID-19), in a sample of secretions from the nose. PCR tests provide a more definitive diagnosis of COVID-19 and can be used to confirm the presence of the COVID-19 virus when required for treatment or other purposes.

A sample will be collected via a nasal swab and the appointment only lasts a few minutes. The swab must be processed in an offsite lab, so the result will be available within 12-36 hours after testing.

A doctor’s prescription is not necessary for this test.

Can I have a rapid antigen or PCR test if I have come in contact with someone who has COVID-19?

Yes, you can receive a test if you have come into contact with a confirmed case of COVID-19.  Please select the “close contact of a confirmed case of COVID-19” option when you book your appointment, and please wear a mask when you come to the clinic.

What happens if my test result is positive?

If you receive a positive result on either your rapid antigen or PCR test, you should contact your local Public Health department for further direction.

How can I get a copy of my rapid screening test results?

You can choose to wait for a paper copy of your test results, and/or you can opt to receive your results by email.

How will I get a copy of my PCR test results?

Your test results will be sent to you via email within 36 hours of your test.

Why are you charging patients for these tests?

Rapid screening tests are not covered by provincial health services for any part of the testing visit.

PCR tests are only covered in certain situations (coverage varies by province) and are generally not covered for those who require a test for international or domestic travel, recreation, visiting family or work/school.

Patients can see if they qualify for and where they can obtain government-funded PCR COVID-19 testing by visiting their provincial health or government websites and checking the most recent guidelines.

What is your cancellation policy for an appointment?

Please use the link in the booking confirmation email or contact the testing clinic location directly to cancel, at least 24 hours in advance of your test.

If you booked your appointment on the same day that you are attending, please contact the testing clinic directly to cancel your appointment.

Appointments for PCR testing must be cancelled at least 24 hours in advance in order to receive a refund.

What do I need to do to prepare for my testing appointment?
Please bring a valid ID, your healthcare card and the email confirmation to your appointment. No specific preparation is required for a COVID-19 test.

We require that all patients wear a mask when they visit our clinic. If you are experiencing symptoms consistent with COVID-19, or who have been in close contact with a known case of COVID-19, please notify our staff immediately upon your arrival, regardless of vaccination status, so they can immediately show you to an exam room.

I did not receive my rapid screening results by email, what should I do?
Please check your spam folder to see whether your results were delivered to you. If you haven’t received your rapid screening test results within 24 hours of your test, please contact the clinic location where your test was completed, by phone or email.
Do I need to make an appointment for a rapid screening test?
