Occupational Injury Services (OIS/WCB)
Please book online or call to make an OIS appointment. If your company is not part of the OIS program, please see information below to contact the OIS coordinator for information on becoming part of the OIS program. If you can’t find an appointment online, please call the clinic. OIS service hours are noted on the clinic’s wait timer.
Medicentres is excited to offer virtual OIS visits to injured workers. This allows workers to be assessed and treated in a timely manner, especially where there is no or limited access to an OIS clinic. The virtual OIS service is currently only available to injured workers who live and work in remote areas.
Injured workers who are injured close to an OIS clinic should schedule an in-person OIS Visit.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why would I visit a Medicentres OIS physician instead of my regular family physician?
Your family physician specializes in general health. OIS physicians have a special interest in work-related injuries. They have access to background knowledge of your worksite, will see you within 30 minutes on average and will complete WCB reports on the same day. OIS physicians can expedite diagnostic services and work with you and your employer to create a personal return-to-work plan.
Will I wait long for an assessment?
No. The average wait time is no more than 30 minutes to have an assessment started. In unusual circumstances, such as the arrival of an emergency case, the wait may be longer. However, even in these instances the wait time is shorter than in an emergency room.
Is my health information kept confidential?
Medicentres’ OIS physicians and staff must abide by privacy legislation. When communicating with employers, the physician’s focus will be on supporting return to work. Your personal medical information will be kept confidential, and it will not be discussed. A copy of the OIS report showing what activities workers can or cannot do while recovering from injury will be provided to the worker and employer.
If an injured employee is in a remote area without access to an OIS clinic, can they still use the OIS program?
Medicentres provides Virtual OIS visits for injured workers working in remote areas and unable to attend an OIS clinic. We provide virtual OIS visits to assist with the assessment and timely treatment of your injured worker. All Virtual OIS appointments must be booked by the injured worker themselves. This will ensure all the required questions are answered fully. Failure to answer all required questions will cause a delay in the approval of the appointment.
Virtual OIS is only available to injured workers who are in remote areas. If your worker is close to one of our OIS clinics, we ask that you arrange an in-person visit.
Are Medicentres OIS clinics walk-ins or do I have to call ahead?
You can either call the clinic directly or book an appointment online by clicking the “Book Now” button on this page. Please contact the OIS clinic to let them know that your worker is coming so the clinic can perform a triage assessment.
For safety reasons, it is important that workers not attend the clinic with injuries that are not in the scope of services offered by the OIS clinic. If your worker has chest pains, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, is unconscious or has bleeding that is difficult to stop, you must contact the emergency services.
Who do Medicentres OIS physicians work for?
Medicentres has been contracted by WCB to provide OIS services to employers and their injured workers. Medicentres’ OIS physicians do not work for WCB or your employer.
If my employee went to an emergency room first, can they still be seen in an OIS clinic?
An employee should visit an emergency room (ER) if the OIS clinic is closed, the injury is severe and requires ER treatment or the injury is beyond the scope of services provided by the OIS clinic. In these cases, the employee can still be seen in an OIS clinic if the time period between an ER visit and OIS visit is less than 96 hours.
Do injured workers have the option of a virtual OIS assessment?
Yes, an injured worker in a remote location, where there is no access to an OIS clinic, can be assessed virtually. Our physicians supporting the Virtual OIS program have experience in providing OIS and virtual visits and are confident in assessing and determining treatment plans. However, there may be times when the injured worker will need to be treated in person by a physician. For example, if your injured worker suffered a laceration, the physician may advise that they attend their local emergency room to have the laceration stitched, but the OIS physician can recommend the modifications. If you are near an OIS clinic, an in person visit is preferred.
What happens if our injured worker needs immediate urgent care or emergency room care?
If the injury is serious and requires immediate attention, please direct your worker to the local Urgent Care or Emergency room, to be assessed by a physician. As per WCB, when an injured worker is assessed and treated at an Urgent Care or Emergency room, they can still take part in the OIS program, as long as it is within 96 hours of the visit.
Once your worker has been treated at the Emergency room or Urgent care, you can make an appointment with a Medicentres physician to determine the modifications required so your worker can return to safely. For injured workers in remote areas, you can book an appointment via the virtual program, to determine the modifications required so your worker can return to safely.
